Vacant Wichita school is back on the market
A vacant Wichita school building is back on the market after a potential buyer withdrew its proposal to buy it, district officials said.
Wichita school board members voted in June to approve a contract for the sale of the former Blackbear Bosin Academy, 6123 E. 11th St., to Cook Construction for $500,000.
Last week, the district’s real estate broker notified officials that Cook Construction withdrew its proposal, said district spokeswoman Susan Arensman.
The vacant building is one of six surplus properties the district put up for sale in April.
The board has green-lighted contracts for four of the schools: the former Metro-Boulevard Alternative High School, 951 S. George Washington Blvd. for $201,000; the former Metro-Meridian Alternative High School, at Maple and Meridian, for $275,000; land adjacent to Jackson Elementary School, 29th Street North and Woodlawn, for $750,000; and the former Gateway Alternative School, 640 N. Emporia, for $225,000.
Longfellow Elementary, 2116 S. Main, still is available.
Blackbear Bosin Academy, a former alternative middle school, was built in 1956 and closed in 2011. It sits on about 6.5 acres in a residential neighborhood southwest of 13th and Woodlawn.
