Threat in bathroom prompts extra security at Andover Middle School
Andover Middle School will have extra security on hand Thursday after a threat was discovered in a school bathroom, district officials said Wednesday.
Nicole Gibbs, spokeswoman for Andover public schools, said a bomb threat had been written on a toilet paper dispenser in a bathroom at Andover Middle School on Wednesday afternoon. The threat referenced a potential incident at the school on Thursday, she said.
“We take actions like this seriously, and will not tolerate any activities that disrupt a safe school environment for our students,” Gibbs said in an e-mail and letter sent to Andover families and the media Wednesday.
A general sweep of the building was completed by teachers, custodians and other staff members, the letter said, and officials will continue to monitor the building.
Students and staff “should expect an increased presence of security tomorrow,” with Andover Police Department law enforcement officers joining district and school security officers “to provide additional safety measures on our campus,” the letter said.
