Want to serve on the school board? Lynn Rogers will answer your questions
Lynn Rogers, who was elected to the Kansas Senate earlier this month, will hold an information session Wednesday for people interested in filling the seat he currently holds on the Wichita school board.
“My 16 years of service … has given me a long-term understanding of the duties and implications of this position,” Rogers said. “It is no small task.”
Rogers said he will be at the North High School lecture hall, 1437 Rochester, at 6 p.m. Wednesday. He plans to give a short presentation about “the nuts and bolts” of school board service and answer questions.
Anyone interested in replacing Rogers on the board would have to live in District 6 – which includes Riverside, midtown and parts of north and northeast Wichita – and cannot be an employee of the Wichita school district.
Although state law allows people elected to state office to continue serving on local school boards, Rogers said he was concerned about the logistics of holding both offices and was leaning toward resigning his school board seat.
If Rogers resigns, the remaining six members of the school board would appoint a replacement to serve the remainder of his term. Should that person choose to run for the seat, he or she would compete in a primary in August and the general election in November 2017.
