Motorist reports drive-by shooting in west Wichita

A 62-year-old driver reported being shot at in a drive-by early Sunday morning, according to Wichita police. He was not injured.

Sgt. Nikki Woodrow, of the Wichita Police Department, said the 62-year-old man called police at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday to report his car had been shot at near Maple and 135th Street West.

The driver told police that the front passenger of a Dodge Charger pointed a handgun toward him and fired one shot, which damaged the hood and windshield of the man’s vehicle.

The man recorded the tag number of the Dodge Charger, which led officers to the 4400 block of East Edminster.

Woodrow said police arrested two male suspects, ages 18 and 17 years old.

The 18-year-old was booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault and criminal damage to an automobile.

The 17-year-old was booked into the juvenile detention facility on suspicion of aggravated assault, criminal damage to an automobile and obstruct.
