Wichita children left alone, given pills to sleep, report says

Three Wichita children taken into protective custody said they had been left alone for several days at a time and were given pills to sleep, according to a police report released Monday.

The children are ages 5, 11 and 12, police Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said. The parent is 36.

According to the “child abandonment” police report taken Saturday, two of the children were at a business at Central and Maize Road. One was wearing only a pink robe and said that the parent gave her a medication the night before “so she could sleep and she passed out,” the police report said.

The children said they had been left alone “several days a week and also being given pills to sleep on different occasions,” the report said.

The children were taken to Wichita Children’s Home.
