Man, 23, arrested in Jan. 31 drive-by shooting on East Glen Oaks

A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting last month, police said Monday.

The suspect was arrested by Wichita police officers and the U.S. Marshals Service at about 2 p.m. Saturday in the 2300 block of North Green, Lt. James Espinoza said. He was identified by victims as the person who opened fire on a vehicle with four occupants parked in the 2800 block of East Glen Oaks on the evening of Jan. 31.

A 23-year-old man sitting behind the wheel was struck in the head and shoulders and hospitalized, Espinoza said. A 19-year-old woman sitting in the front passenger seat was hit in the lower part of her body. She was treated at a hospital and released.

The two other people in the vehicle parked just east of I-135 and south of Pawnee were not injured. The suspect was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of numerous crimes, including attempted first-degree murder.

The incident is not gang-related, Espinoza said.

“We believe it’s over an issue involving a loss of some property” between the driver and the suspect, Espinoza said.
