Hutch teens sentenced for school bomb plot
Two Hutchinson High School teens arrested in March after planning to detonate pipe bombs at school were each sentenced to 45 months in a juvenile correctional facility, according a Reno County District Court clerk. After serving the prison sentence, they each will be subject to three years of aftercare, she said.
Both were convicted of conspiracy to commit capital murder.
The teens, 14 and 15, were arrested March 8 after school administrators were tipped off to the plot and called police. Investigators found what’s been called “detailed plans to harm students and faculty” in the boys’ possession, including notes and materials for constructing bombs and surveillance logs on staff members.
The 15-year-old was sentenced Tuesday. The 14-year-old was sentenced July 12, the clerk said.
The Eagle is not naming the teens because they were not charged as adults.
