Wichita man sentenced to nearly 10 years in federal prison
A Wichita man has been sentenced to nearly 10 years in federal prison on a weapon possession by a felon conviction, authorities said.
Robby Alan Murphy, 35, pleaded guilty in May to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm following a felony conviction, Acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall said in a prepared statement.
Murphy entered the plea during the second day of his trial on the charges, Beall said. During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Murphy was armed with a handgun on April 18, 2015, when he and a co-defendant attempted to rob a drug dealer at this home near Cheney.
Murphy was prohibited by law from possessing a gun because of a previous federal firearm conviction, Beall said. He was given a sentence of 115 months.
Murphy’s co-defendant, Byron Cadavid, has been sentenced to 38 months in federal prison – or slightly more than three years.
