Wichita police investigate two weekend shootings
Wichita police are investigating two shootings that happened Saturday.
Shortly after 12:55 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of South Rock Road, where a 64-year-old man told police he had observed a man shooting at a white Toyota minivan in the 8000 block of East Douglas, according to Wichita police Sgt. Joe Kennedy.
During the investigation, officers discovered that a 25-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman went to the 100 block of South Rock Road to sell a phone. They were met by two men who took the phone, ran off, then climbed into a White Toyota minivan.
The 25-year-old man attempted to chase after the men on foot and fired several shots at them, Kennedy said.
The white minivan struck a median in the road as it drove off.
Police took the 25-year-old man into custody and booked him for two counts of aggravated assault.
If anyone has information on the two men or the Toyota minivan, they are encouraged to call the investigation section of the Wichita Police Department at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-257-2111.
Another shooting happened shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday in the 9100 block of East Bedell, which is northwest of Harry and Webb.
When Wichita police arrived at the location, they found three people – a 57-year-old man, a 64-year-old woman and an 86-year-old woman – who were all inside their residence when a man knocked on their door and asked to use their phone.
The 57-year-old man told police that as he answered the door, he could see two more men walking around the corner of the house, one of them armed with a gun.
The man shut the door and one of the men fired a shot into the house, Kennedy said.
The suspects then fled the scene on foot and were not found.
Kennedy said that in both shooting incidents, no one was reported injured.
