Police: Robber jumps counter, attacks clerk

Police are looking for a robber who stole cash and cigarettes from a convenience store early Thursday morning.

The man walked into the Presto in the 1200 block of South Rock Road at about 5 a.m. on Thursday, jumped over the counter and started hitting the clerk on duty, Wichita police Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said. The 30-year-old employee was able to get away and escaped to a bathroom.

She did not emerge from the bathroom until after the robber had left, Woodrow said. Police are reviewing video for clues.

The clerk suffered minor injuries at most, Woodrow said. Anyone with information about the robbery is being asked to call the investigations section at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
