Man shot in leg while working in his garage

He thought all those popping sounds he heard were merely firecrackers going off on the evening of Independence Day. But it turns out at least one of them was a gun firing – and the bullet hit him in his leg.

The 40-year-old man told police he was working on a project in his garage when he felt something strike his leg at about 11 p.m. on Monday, Wichita police Officer Charley Davidson said. He didn’t think anything of it until he saw a bullet lying on the floor of his detached garage.

The victim did not see who fired the shot, though police are looking for a dark-colored four-door sedan. The man was not seriously injured in the shooting, which occurred southwest of 13th and Oliver.

“Any type of random act like this would be concerning,” Davidson said, adding that random shootings don’t happen often in Wichita.

Anyone with information related to the incident is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
