Sedgwick County sweep of 174 offenders’ houses
A sweep of local registered offenders’ houses this week yielded 13 cases where offenders weren’t living where they say they were, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The agency, with the help of parole officers, a detective and police officers from Haysville and Derby, conducted address verifications Wednesday at the houses of 174 registered offenders in southern Sedgwick County. Cities included in the sweep were Mulvane, Haysville and Derby.
In the 13 cases where offenders weren’t at the addresses they gave authorities, they had moved and not reported their new address, never lived at the address or had given a phony address, according to the news release. Those who give false or misleading information can be charged in district court with felony non-compliance.
Kansas offenders required to register by law have to provide their local sheriff’s office with their address every three months. The public can check where registered offenders live through the Offender Watch Program. A link to that portal is on www.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriff.
