Scammers pose as police seeking money for injured children
Wichita police received several reports over the weekend of someone calling residents, claiming to be with the police and saying that they are seeking money for injured children, Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said Monday.
There is no such police fundraising effort now, Woodrow said.
Although there are legitimate groups or businesses that solicit money by phone, people need to be wary of fundraising efforts by phone and do some checking before giving money, Woodrow said.
Speaking of scams, she said, police do not seek payment for tickets by e-mail.
