Woman attempts to fend off armed robber with stun gun
A 21-year-old woman was injured in a fast-food restaurant parking lot on Friday after fighting with – and attacking with a stun gun – an armed man who jumped into her car.
The woman told police that she had parked at the back of the Wendy’s at Central and West at about 6:50 p.m. Friday. As she was getting out of the car to go into the restaurant, she said, a man jumped into the passenger side of her car, pointed a handgun at her and demanded money.
“At that time, the female, who had possession of a stun gun, used the stun gun on him, and a fight ensued between the two,” said Sgt. Brian Sigman of the Wichita Police Department. “The suspect hit the 21-year-old victim about the face with the gun prior to jumping out of the car and then leaving.”
Instead of calling 911, Sigman said, the victim drove to a friend’s house nearby, and the friend took her to the hospital. That’s when police were alerted.
“We really recommend that folks call 911 immediately after something like that happens,” Sigman said. “It gives us a better chance of being able to figure out who our suspect may be and gives us a better chance of finding the suspect hopefully still in the area.”
The woman suffered a fractured nasal cavity and other facial injuries. No one has been arrested.
