Donor adds to Crime Stoppers reward in face-slashing robbery

An anonymous donor has added an additional $1,000 to the up to $2,500 Crime Stoppers reward offered for information leading to the arrest of a robber who slashed the face of a woman unloading groceries from her car on New Year’s Day.

The woman was outside of her apartment complex in the 1400 block of East Douglas at 8:35 p.m. Jan. 1 when a man sprinted up to her and demanded her purse, Crime Stoppers said in a news release announcing the additional award. When she refused, the man cut the woman’s left cheek with a knife, snatched her purse and ran away.

The man is described as black and muscular, in his 30s, between 6-foot-1 and 6-foot-4 and weighing about 240 pounds. He reportedly was wearing a black hooded shirt, black pants and was armed with a silver fixed-blade knife at the time of the attack.

The donation elevates the total award possible in the case to $3,500. Anyone with information is asked to submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers by calling 316-267-2111 or by texting TIP217 and the information to 274637 (CRIMES). Anonymous tips also can be submitted online at www.wichitasedgwickcountycrimestoppers.com.

Crime Stoppers is a division of the Wichita Crime Commission. The organization pays rewards of up to $2,500 for information leading to arrests in some criminal cases.
