Man, 59, charged in killing of Calvary Towers neighbor
Prosecutors on Monday charged a 59-year-old man with second-degree intentional murder in a deadly shooting at Calvary Towers apartment last week, according to Sedgwick County District Court records.
Jimmie Earl Palmer is accused of killing Gilford Carter, 55, in a longstanding feud that flared up May 4 when the neighbors traded words outside of the building, 2600 N. Grove. Wichita police have said the two men went to their respective apartments afterward, but Carter went downstairs 10 to 15 minutes later with a golf club. Palmer then went down with a gun to confront him and shot Carter in the chest, Lt. Todd Ojile has said.
Palmer, who made his first appearance in court Monday, is next due in court May 24. He remains in Sedgwick County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.
