An open car door played a role in Kayla Brown’s death over the weekend, Wichita police said Monday.
An argument that began when the open driver’s door of her car prevented a man from pulling into a parking stall in front of an apartment building escalated into a physical clash at Falcon Pointe Apartments, 4244 S. Hydraulic, on Saturday night, Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said.
Seth Collins, 38, is accused of pulling out a knife and stabbing Brown, 22, in the neck and her twin sister, Shayla, in the upper left arm at about 10 p.m. on Saturday, Woodrow said. Officers found Kayla lying on the sidewalk directly in front of the door to Building 8 at the apartment complex, while Shayla was sitting on the grass just to the east of the door.

The twins were taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment. Kayla was pronounced dead at 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, while Shayla was treated and released.
The suspect and victims all lived in the same apartment building, Woodrow said. There is no previous history of clashes between the twins and the suspect.
Collins was arrested just after 10:30 p.m. on Saturday at the apartment complex and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. He is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder and aggravated battery. His bond is set at $250,000.
Kayla Brown’s death is the ninth homicide of the year in Wichita, Woodrow said.
