Life in prison for man who killed wife in Watson Park
The man convicted of fatally shooting his estranged wife at Wichita’s O.J. Watson Park last year was sentenced Thursday to life in prison.
Pierre Ross Washington must serve 25 years of the sentence before he is eligible for parole, according to Dan Dillon, spokesman for the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office. Washington pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree felony murder in March.
Prosecutors say Washington, 29, shot 26-year-old Diana Washington at least seven times while in the park, near 31st Street South and McLean, on Oct. 28 after telling one of her relatives he was thinking about killing her and her new boyfriend.
Police officers who responded to Washington’s 911 call found his wife’s body in a van parked at 1324 W. 42nd St. South, about two miles from the park. Washington admitted shooting her when he talked to the emergency dispatcher.
Sedgwick County District Court Judge Joe Kisner imposed the life sentence, Dillon said.
