Northeast Magnet student found in Tennessee with man

Authorities are gathering more details in a Northeast Magnet student’s decision to run off with a man she met on the Internet.

The 16-year-old girl went missing after leaving Northeast on Wednesday afternoon in Bel Aire, Wichita police Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said. After authorities were notified that she was missing, the Exploited and Missing Child Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children unit began searching for her.

The girl’s cellphone was found Thursday on a rural road in Missouri, Woodrow said, and she was located at about 2 a.m. Friday by law enforcement officers in Marshall County, Tennessee.

She was with an 18-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He lives in another state and had been communicating with her via the computer. Her parents have been told of her discovery, Woodrow said.

“The detectives did an outstanding job of using available resources to track down and help recover the girl,” Woodrow said.
