KBI: Man shot by McPherson County deputy has died
A man shot by a McPherson County sheriff’s deputy who was trying to serve an arrest warrant has died, the KBI said Friday in a news release.
The man was shot about 3 p.m. Thursday after deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant on U.S. 56 near 19th Avenue in McPherson County, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation news release.
The KBI did not disclose the man’s name, age or hometown.
The release said the man resisted arrest and began fighting with the two deputies. One deputy tried to use his Taser several times on the man with no success.
The man struck one of the deputies in the face several times, the release said, then attacked the second deputy, who had issued a command for the man to stop.
After attacking the second deputy, the man returned to beating the first deputy. The second deputy, the release said, then shot the man.
He was transported to McPherson Memorial Hospital, where he died, the release said.
The KBI said the incident was captured on video, which will be reviewed as part of its investigation.
The KBI said it would not release any more information until the investigation is complete and has been reviewed by McPherson County Attorney Torrance Parkins.
