An acting U.S. attorney for the District of Kansas has been named to replace Barry Grissom, who is stepping down on Friday to re-enter private practice.

Tom Beall has served as the first assistant U.S. attorney since November 2013, according to a statement released by Grissom’s office.

The District of Kansas comprises about 50 assistant U.S. attorneys and 50 support staff members, with offices in Topeka, Wichita and Kansas City, Kan. Beall will work mainly out of the office in Topeka.

Beall, a native of Leavenworth who earned his law degree at Washburn University, joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2011 and was promoted to the top assistant’s position two years later.
