Police: Investigation leads to Wichita arrests in human trafficking case
After an investigation spanning months, a man and woman have been arrested on suspicion of sex trafficking involving a 15-year-old girl from Lawrence, police said Wednesday.
The girl was spotted in Wichita somewhere “they shouldn’t be” back in early February, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. The girl was placed in protective custody and an investigation was launched.
Records show Jacquett Dunbar, 25, and Ladeisha Brown, 20, were booked into the Sedgwick County Jail early Tuesday morning on suspicion of commercial sexual exploitation of a child and aggravated human trafficking: forced labor for sex.
They are each being held on $100,000 bond.
The victim had been reported as a runaway from Lawrence and was found in Wichita, Espinoza said.
“We don’t know how long she was here” before she was found, he said.
