A 32-year-old man was jailed after a neighbor spotted him whipping his girlfriend with a belt in the front yard Sunday morning, police said.

The witness called 911 at about 8 a.m. Sunday from the 600 block of South Edgemoor, Lt. Steve Kenney said. The suspect reportedly retrieved a handgun and pointed it at his girlfriend, yelling threats at her.

As police arrived, the suspect ran into his residence, Kenney said. Police were eventually able to go inside, where they found a large amount of cash, multiple weapons and “decent amounts of marijuana,” Kenney said.

The suspect was booked into jail on suspicion of firearms and drug crimes, along with domestic violence offenses.
