Police arrest man after shots fired in parking lot near Meridian and Maple
A 27-year-old man was arrested after shots were fired in an apartment complex parking lot at 420 S. Meridian around 6:25 a.m. Friday, Wichita police Sgt. Troy Nedbalek said Saturday.
A resident reported hearing a woman screaming, Nedbalek said, and when he went outside to check, he saw two men in a physical altercation. The complex is between Maple and Kellogg.
One of the men then ran down the stairs toward the parking lot, and the other man pointed a gun at him and the woman, firing at least twice and hitting the ground and a privacy fence, Nedbalek said. The other man, 29, and the woman, 27, ran toward a car, where two girls were already inside; they took off and then contacted police, Nedbalek said.
A short time later, police found the suspect in a black Mustang, a handgun in plain sight inside, Nedbalek said. The 27-year-old man was arrested on charges of aggravated assault on four people, the sergeant said.
