Man, 88, attacked and robbed after leaving bank

Police are looking for a suspect who attacked and robbed an 88-year-old man Thursday afternoon north of downtown Wichita.

The victim had left a bank, walked south on Broadway and then turned east onto 19th Street when he was jumped from behind shortly before 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. The suspect pushed the victim down and took his wallet, which contained $300 in cash.

While the suspect was still on top of the victim, Espinoza said, a motorist spotted the attack. The suspect then ran off, chased by the driver in a pickup truck.

The chase continued for a couple of blocks before the suspect was able to get away, Espinoza said. The witness told police the attacker is a black male in his 40s who is about 5-feet-5 and 150 pounds. He had gray hair and wore blue jeans, a jean jacket and a ball cap.

The victim suffered a cut on his elbow and was treated at the scene, Espinoza said.
