Police: Man shot Monday night in gang-related clash dies
A 19-year-old man who was shot Monday night in what police have described as a long-running, gang-related feud has died.
Samuel Meza was shot in the hip just after 8 p.m. Monday in the 2600 block of North Waco, police have said. He was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis, where he died Wednesday afternoon.
Police have the name of the man suspected of shooting Meza and are looking for him, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. Meza and the suspect had engaged in a feud over the past three years that culminated Monday night, Espinoza said.
The two had engaged in a verbal clash a few blocks away on North Jackson about an hour earlier, Espinoza said, before crossing paths again on Waco. Witnesses told police the suspect then pulled out a gun and fired one shot, striking Meza in the hip.
Meza’s death is the seventh homicide in Wichita this year, Lt. Todd Ojile said.
