Wichita police: Motorcyclist tied to Kwik Shop clash found

Wichita police have located the man on a motorcycle who has been linked to an altercation at a convenience store last weekend that is being investigated as a possible hate crime.

Two Wichita State University students scuffled with the man following an argument at the gas pumps of the Kwik Shop at 4820 E. 21st St. shortly after 3 a.m. on March 12, police have said. The students have said the biker used hate speech during the dispute, at one point punching one of them and shoving the other.

Police have obtained security video of the incident and have been interviewing people who were there at the time.

“We still have a lot of work to do” in the case, Lt. James Espinoza said.

He said he did not know whether the biker had been questioned yet by police.

Investigators are still hoping to find the driver of a white van that was at the Kwik Shop at the time of the altercation, Espinoza said.

The Kwik Shop videos have no audio, so investigators are trying to piece together what was said based on interviews with people who were there.

No arrests have been made in the case. Investigators will eventually present information to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine what charges, if any, are filed.
