Wichita police are trying to determine the circumstances behind a man’s body being found in a southeast Wichita yard late Thursday evening.
Wichita police Lt. Jeff Allen said officers were originally dispatched to the 1700 block of South Roanoke for a reported shooting around 9:45 p.m. Thursday.
That’s just southeast of Harry and Edgemoor.
When officers arrived, a 35-year-old man was unresponsive in the yard, and a woman was with him, Allen said.

Emergency Medical Services attempted to resuscitate the man, working on him “quite some time” before he was eventually pronounced dead, Allen said.
As of midnight Friday, police were unable to determine the nature of the injuries the man sustained.
“Usually we will have evidence that clearly indicates it’s a shooting or whatever it is,” Allen said. “We don’t have that at this point.”
The woman who was with him was taken in for questioning, and police were interviewing her after midnight, Allen said.
“We don’t know if there was a fight that happened here or what happened exactly,” Allen said.
The person who called in the shooting is the only one who reported hearing gunshots in the area, Allen said, but police are talking to neighbors to see if they heard anything suspicious.
“We have some other leads we’re developing right now by doing the neighborhood,” he said. “The information at the scene is very sketchy at this point but we do have a few leads we’re following up on.”
Police think the man was a resident at the home where he was found, Allen said.
As of midnight Friday, officers were awaiting a signed search warrant to enter the home.
Officers are investigating the case as a suspicious death, Allen said, which will likely be worked as a homicide.
More information on the case is expected at a 10 a.m. police briefing Friday.
