Arkansas City man arrested on 34 sexual offenses
An Arkansas City man has been arrested on suspicion of 34 sexual offenses, including rape, according to a news release Monday from the Arkansas City Police Department.
Darren Lee Williams was arrested Friday during a traffic stop in the 600 block of West Madison Avenue in Arkansas City and was booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield, the release said. He faces three counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, 12 counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, three counts of criminal sodomy, 10 counts of indecent liberties with a child and six counts of rape.
According to the release, police were notified last week of an adult male having an inappropriate relationship with a girl. During their investigation police identified another alleged victim, also a juvenile.
Williams was arrested during a controlled traffic stop. Search warrants were issued and executed at his home and vehicle.
Some of the 34 sexual offenses are alleged to have occurred in Arkansas City, while others are alleged to have occurred in rural parts of Cowley County.
The case was investigated by the Arkansas City Police Department with assistance from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office.
