Pratt man sentenced to 18 years for murder and child abuse
A Pratt man was sentenced Monday to 18 years in prison for murder in the second-degree and abuse of a child, according to a news release from Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.
Joseph D. Sponaugle, 29, was sentenced in Pratt County District Court to serve 220 months by Judge Francis Meisenheimer.
Sponaugle was convicted in January of one count of second-degree murder, one count of abuse of a child and one count of endangering a child.
According to court documents, Sponaugle was accused in the death of a 3-month-old girl, who was severely shaken between Jan. 11 and Jan. 14, 2014. He also was accused of endangering a 13-month-old boy in 2013.
