Police seek help as they investigate shooting incident near West High

Wichita police are looking for help from the public as they investigate a shooting incident a few blocks from West High on Thursday.

A 60-year-old man reported hearing several gunshots shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of West Stillwell, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. That’s next to Seneca and a few blocks west of West High.

Several witnesses observed seeing a black Buick leave the area “at a high rate of speed,” Espinoza said.

Witnesses reported two men shooting at each other, he said, but officers found only one set of shell casings at the scene. One of the reported shooters was on foot, the other was in the Buick.

One bullet struck a nearby house and another struck a fence. Police alerted hospitals to watch for anyone who comes in with a gunshot wound, Espinoza said, but no one has sought treatment for that injury.

Anyone with information about the shooting incident is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
