Man shot outside east Wichita apartment complex

A 23-year-old man was hospitalized after he was shot in the back early Tuesday morning in east Wichita, authorities said.

The victim reported he was emptying his trash at about 2:35 a.m. at Eastgate Apartments in the 600 block of South Eastgate when he was shot once in the back, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. That’s south of Kellogg and east of Rock Road.

The man was transported to Wesley Medical Center with a wound not considered life-threatening, authorities said. The victim is not cooperating with police, Espinoza said, and there is no information about any suspects.

“Obviously, there’s some question about what happened at that location,” he said.
