Conscientious robber turn himself in to Wichita police
A man robbed a Kwik Shop in northeast Wichita early Friday morning and then, feeling badly about it, turned himself in to police a short time later.
A store employee reported a man walked in to the convenience store at 2142 N. Webb Road at about 2 a.m., indicated he had a weapon and demanded money from the cash register, Wichita police Capt. Doug Nolte said. The employee complied, giving the robber a small amount of cash.
The robber then left in a black Honda CRV. Not long after that, officers at Patrol North noticed a black Honda CRV arrive at the bureau offices at 21st and Hillside, Nolte said.
The driver turned himself in for the convenience store robbery. The 28-year-old man was interviewed and then booked into jail, Nolte said. Officers found evidence of the robbery in the car.
“I would say it’s very uncommon,” Nolte said of the man’s actions. “This criminal had a conscience.”
