Police arrest second suspect in beating linked to missing dog (+video)

A suspect linked to the kidnapping and beating of a man in a dispute over a missing dog was arrested late Wednesday afternoon after an extended chase, police said.

The man was spotted in a black Pontiac Grand Prix at about 5:20 p.m. in the 5600 block of East Central, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. An officer attempted a traffic stop since the driver was named as one of the people who tied up and beat a man in a house in the 1500 block of North Hydraulic on Monday night after a prized pit bull went missing.

But the driver of the Grand Prix wouldn’t stop, Espinoza said, so a pursuit lasting several minutes began. The 26-year-old suspect finally stopped at Murdock and Parkwood and ran from the car, but he was caught by officers a short distance away.

A 23-year-old man told police at about noon Tuesday that he was asked to go to a residence in the 1500 block of North Hydraulic on Monday night. Once he arrived, he said, two men there tied him up and assaulted him. He was later released.

The missing dog was one of a half-dozen pit bulls being kept at the house that were put in the care of the victim while the suspects were away. A 21-year-old man who lives at the house was arrested Tuesday.

The missing dog has not been found, police say. The dogs discovered at the house were seized.
