Wichita police searching for suspect after woman shot near 21st and Hillside
Police are looking for a man linked to a shooting late Wednesday night that sent a woman to the hospital.
The shooting was reported at 11:20 p.m. in the 2300 block of North Volutsia, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatcher said. That’s just northwest of 21st and Hillside.
Police think two women in their 20s met two men after 11 p.m. Wednesday, when they were robbed of $350 to $500. The men fled on foot.
One of the women, 27, then chased the men. Police say that is when she was shot in the leg. The other woman, 24, identified one of the men as her nephew.
The 27-year-old woman was found in the front yard of a residence and taken to Wesley Medical Center, the emergency dispatcher said.
Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said police recovered the woman’s cellphone and an unspecified amount of marijuana at the scene. Police said her injuries were minor.
Police are looking for a black man who is 5-feet-7 and 150 pounds. He was wearing a black-and-white jacket and was carrying a black backpack.
