Pedestrian struck by vehicle dies; Wichita police seek help in solving case (+video)

Wichita police are seeking the public’s help in finding out who struck and killed a pedestrian as he was crossing Main Street on Monday night.

A 46-year-old woman reported finding the 65-year-old man in the 1100 block of North Main shortly before 6:15 p.m. Monday, Wichita police Lt. Todd Ojile said. The man was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis, where he died shortly before 10:45 p.m.

He was pushing a shopping cart that contained personal belongings and bottles of liquor when he was hit, Ojile said. His name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

A police report indicated the victim was walking south on Main at the time he was struck, but Ojile said investigators know little about the circumstances of the incident. The victim is not homeless, he said, even though he was walking and pushing a shopping cart at the time.

“As of now, we have no suspect description, no vehicle description,” Ojile said.

Officers talked to people in the area near the collision, he said, but have learned little. Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to call 911, Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or the accident follow-up unit at 316-268-4518.
