Police: Robbers force way into man’s home, beat him and steal car
A 75-year-old Wichita man was taken the hospital with facial fractures after two men forced their way into his home, assaulted him, and took his car, police said.
Officers responded around 10:20 a.m. Friday to a house in the 2200 block of West Douglas, where they found the victim.
“He did sustain some serious facial fractures,” said Sgt. Troy Nedbalek, one of the responding officers.
Nedbalek said the man was waiting to meet a city inspector at his home, where he was doing some remodeling, when someone knocked on the door. Two unknown men forced their way into the house as the victim opened the door.
“When the door knock came, he thought it was the inspector, so he was surprised,” Nedbalek said. “And the inspector was surprised when he showed up and there were six police cars.”
One of the men punched the victim in the face. The victim then was forced to the floor; another man pointed a gun at his head and demanded money.
Nedbalek said the suspects tied up the man and took his cash, televisions and car: a brown, four-door 2006 Buick Lucerne, license plate number 325 KAT.
The victim refused transport by EMS but later asked police to take him to the hospital, Nedbalek said.
Police were searching for the suspects and the victim’s car, he said.
