Man threatens to burn down home after neighbor dispute, Wichita police say

A dispute between neighbors escalated to a threat to burn down a home with 10 people inside early Saturday morning, a Wichita Police Department spokesman said.

Police arrested a 37-year-old man allegedly armed with a gas can and knife on suspicion of aggravated assault and intimidation after neighbors said he told them just after midnight he was going to burn down their home in the 700 block of South Hunter south of Kellogg near Woodlawn, Sgt. Mark Jackson said.

A man at the home knocked the gas can out of the alleged assailant’s hands, but then the suspect produced a knife, Jackson said.

At home at the residents were six people ranging in age from 6 months to 28 years old, he said.

Jackson said he didn’t know what the dispute was about. No one was injured, he said.
