1 man hospitalized, 1 jailed after shooting (+video)

An argument between friends took a violent turn early Monday morning, leaving one man in jail and the other fighting for his life in a hospital.

A shooting reported at about 2 a.m. Monday in the 500 block of West 27th South was initially described as a suicide attempt, Lt. James Espinoza said. Upon further investigation, however, police found evidence to indicate the 19-year-old victim was shot by his 19-year-old passenger as they sat in the victim’s vehicle.

The friend was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder shortly before 1 p.m. Monday following an interrogation by police, records show. The victim remained in critical condition Tuesday morning, Espinoza said.

Police aren’t sure what the friends were arguing about prior to the shooting, he said.
