Police say two arrested in fatal shooting linked to armed robbery

A second person has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man near Harry and Hillside last week, records show.

Macy Foard, 35, was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail early Tuesday morning on suspicion of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery, records show. He was arrested at about 3:45 p.m. in the 6300 block of E. 13th Street, next to Woodlawn.

Foard and the first man jailed in the case, 23-year-old Alexzander Rye, are suspected of going to 2618 E. Wilma on the night of Dec. 8 to rob the two people who live there, said Wichita police Lt. Todd Ojile, head of the homicide unit.

“They did not know the victim inside,” Ojile said. “They did know the homeowners, who were not at home.”

It appears Dejuan Harris, 42, answered a knock at the door sometime after 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 8, Ojile said.

“We believe there was some sort of struggle” before Harris was shot several times, he said.

Police initially believed Harris was shot four to six hours before he was found on the night of Dec. 9. Additional information gleaned over the course of the investigation now indicates Harris was shot nearly 24 hours before he was found, Ojile said.

Foard and Rye have also been connected to an armed robbery that happened at a house in the 1100 block of North Madison at about 7:30 p.m. Harris was shot about four hours later.

Ojile praised the work done by patrol officers and members of the gang unit and Special Community Action Team.

“They did an outstanding job,” Ojile said. “This was just a great team effort.”

Investigators still don’t know who placed the anonymous call to 911 alerting authorities to Harris’ body at the residence on Wilma, Ojile said.

A third person was involved in the armed robbery of a handful of people at the house on Madison, but he was not involved in the shooting on Wilma.

“He was not involved in the homicide,” Ojile said of the third suspect, who remains at large.
