Hutchinson stabbing victim brought to Wichita; arrest made
A Hutchinson man is in custody Thursday following an extended standoff with police after he stabbed and seriously injured a woman, authorities said.
The 26-year-old woman was transported to Wichita for treatment, where she is in serious condition, Hutchinson police Capt. Troy Hoover said in a statement. She was stabbed several times after the 28-year-old man forced his way inside her residence shortly after 2:30 a.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of East 25th Street, Hoover said.
The suspect, identified as Toby Hippen fled the scene and went to a house in the 700 block of West Fifth, where he eventually surrendered after a lengthy standoff, Hoover said. He is being held in the Reno County Jail on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder.
