Man hospitalized after being shot Sunday in southwest Wichita
A man was hospitalized after being shot in the abdomen in southwest Wichita on Sunday night, authorities said.
The shooting was reported shortly after 7:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of South Martinson, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatch supervisor said. That’s west of Seneca near Harry.
A 45-year-old man told police he shot the intruder after he had made several threats and climbed over a back fence into the yard, Lt. James Espinoza said.
The resident “had heard some talk” next door that the intruder intended to harm him, Espinoza said. The 40-year-old man was shot once and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The shooter was questioned and released, Espinoza said. The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether charges will be filed, Espinoza said.
