Police: Man apologizes to employees as he robs store

A man wearing a bandanna and carrying a gun robbed an auto parts store Tuesday night — apologizing to the employees as he was doing it, police said.

The man walked into the O’Reilly Auto Parts store at 4818 E. Lincoln, near Oliver, at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and pointed a gun at two employees inside, Lt. Jeff Gilmore said.

“Times are hard and I have children to feed,” the robber told the employees, Gilmore said.

A second suspect, who did not appear to be armed, stood at the door acting as a lookout while the robbery unfolded, Gilmore said. The robber left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The duo then left in an unknown direction. Stan Finger: 316-268-6437, @StanFinger
