Woman robbed at Meritrust ATM
For the second Sunday in a row, police said, someone was robbed at gunpoint as they withdrew cash from an ATM at a south Wichita bank.
A 61-year-old woman told police she drove up to the ATM at Meritrust Bank, 2900 South Oliver, at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Lt . James Espinoza said. A man with a gun approached and demanded her money.
The woman gave him $20 in cash and drove off, Espinoza said. She told police the suspect ran east and met up with a second person.
The armed suspect is a black male about 17 years of age, the victim told police. He was about 5-feet-3 and 120 pounds. He wore gray sweat pants, a black hooded sweatshirt and a black ski mask that covered his face.
She was unable to provide a description of the second suspect.
A 30-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint at the same ATM shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 22. Police are investigating to see if the incidents are connected.
“That location is kind of hidden away a little bit,” Espinoza said of the Meritrust ATM.
He suggested patrons find an ATM location “with a little more activity” around it for protection.
“Know your surroundings,” Espinoza said. “Make sure you know where you’re going.”
