Police: Girl’s screams stop abduction attempt near 13th, Waco

Police say a stranger attempted to abduct a 7-year-old girl Sunday afternoon, but that her screams prompted him to flee.

The girl’s mother told police the incident occurred at about 3:45 p.m. in the 1100 block of North State, Capt. Doug Nolte said. That’s near 13th and Waco.

The suspect drove up, got out of his vehicle and “tried to grab and restrain” the girl, Nolte said. The girl resisted and screamed, and the suspect let go and left.

Investigators from the Exploited and Missing Child Unit came to the scene and talked to residents of the neighborhood about what they may have seen or heard, Nolte said.

The suspect is a white man between 30 and 40 years of age. He is 5-feet-8, with brown, curly, shoulder-length hair. He has a goatee, Nolte said.

He wore a black jacket, blue button-up short and khaki pants. He drove a late 1990s white four-door car with chrome wheels.

“It looks like this 7-year-old did exactly what she should do,” Nolte said. “We don’t want to cause an undue panic, but we want parents and kids to be aware of their surroundings.”
