Man asks off-duty officer to arrest him, Wichita police say

Some arrests are easier than others.

A 40-year-old man contacted an off-duty police officer about 8 p.m. Thursday at a Wal-Mart near Pawnee and South Mosley. He told the officer was being sought for an outstanding warrant and wanted to be arrested, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said Friday.

The officer confirmed the warrant and arrested him. The warrant was for petty theft, with a $25,000 bond, Espinoza said.

Before asking to be arrested, the man told the officer he had been robbed and was injured.
