Man attacked by robber with hammer

He made arrangements to meet a woman late Thursday night, police said, but met with a painful surprise instead.

The 44-year-old man used the Backpage website to set up the meeting in the 600 block of South Hunter shortly before midnight Thursday, Lt. James Espinoza said. That’s east of Woodlawn and just south of Kellogg.

No woman showed up, Espinoza said. Instead, a man approached and attacked the 44-year-old man with a hammer, hitting him in the face and teeth and stealing his phone and cash.

The victim declined medical treatment for his injuries, a police report on the incident said.
