Man, 33, dead after shooting reported in southeast Wichita (+video)
A 33-year-old man is dead after at least one bullet pierced the walls of a southeast Wichita house he was in on Wednesday evening, according to the Wichita Police Department.
Police were called to a home in the 800 block of South Broadview at around 7:15 p.m. after multiple people in the neighborhood called 911 to report shots had been fired, police Lt. Ronald Hunt said.
That’s just to the west of Lincoln and Oliver.
When officers arrived, they found the man inside the house with at least one gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, Hunt said.
Police think “at least 20” shots were fired at the house, after which two or possibly three suspects ran from the scene, Hunt said.
At least one of the rounds penetrated the house and struck the victim, Hunt said.
Another man was in the house at the time of the shooting, Hunt said, and police are talking with him.
Hunt said he could not confirm whether the shooting was gang-related.
People with any information or video relating to the shooting are encouraged to call police, Hunt said. They can call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
More information is expected to be released by police at a media briefing at 10 a.m. Thursday.
