Man grazed by bullet charged with attempted burglary in Valley Center incident

A man shot by a Valley Center homeowner during an alleged break-in attempt over the weekend has been charged with one count of attempted aggravated burglary.

Corey L. Burgardt, 30, appeared in Sedgwick County District Court on Tuesday afternoon with a wound over his left eye where law enforcement said he was grazed by a bullet Sunday morning when he allegedly tried to burglarize a house in the 9400 block of West 73rd Street North. The homeowner, who was inside with his wife and three young children, fired at the intruder, law enforcement officials said earlier this week.

Burgardt is accused of breaking a kitchen window to get into the house, according to court documents.

District Judge Joe Kisner on Tuesday set Burgardt’s bond at $50,000. His next court date is set for Dec. 16.
