Man shot in both legs near Central and Hillside

Investigators are looking for a vehicle that was involved in a shooting early Monday.

Police were called to the area of Ninth and Hillside after one car reportedly pulled up to another and someone began shooting shortly after 1:45 a.m., Wichita police Capt. Doug Nolte said. Two people had stopped at a house in the 500 block of North Chautauqua to pick up a friend and then turned onto Ninth Street.

Another car pulled up next to the first in the 2900 block of East Ninth, and someone fired numerous shots, Nolte said. Two bullets struck the car; one penetrated the passenger door and struck the 23-year-old passenger in both legs.

He was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment and released, Nolte said.

Another bullet shattered the window of a parked car, he said.

The driver and passengers “did not have any idea why anyone would be shooting at them,” Nolte said.

There’s no indication of gang involvement in the incident, he said.

The victims were unable to describe the vehicle from which the shots came, Nolte said.
